Earlier, I wrote about using Google Reader + Airfarewatchdog.com to save money on your travel.
After the initial post, people contacted me on googleTalk, and wanted me to document how to build feeds using kayak.
Kayak is my favorite site for finding domestic airfare deals. While I have no data to support me (see disclaimer below), I feel like AirFareWatchDog is better for international travel.
So here goes the 10 cent tour....
Kayak has tons of options for tailoring their RSS feeds to your needs. You can tweak them to search for hotels, airfare, rental cars, cruises, "ladies of the night"...you name it, it'll do it.
But, with that increased customization comes the responsibility to actually build it.
Since I'm only interested in flights originating from the Chicago airports, I am going to customize the feed to reflect this.
The basic Kayak feed:

[edited per Tim's comment]
For Chicago

Plug those into Google Reader (I use an "airfare" tag to keep them organized), and you are set!

Wouldn't it be easier to use CHI to capture all chicago airports or does it not work like that...?
ReplyDeleteGood catch!
ReplyDeleteAir Fare Watch Dog doesn't support this, so I assumed that Kayak doesn't either.
My feeds have been updated!
